Goodbye Wordpress
After the latest wordpress release left me with a trashed db, I’ve opted to reorganize the site and rethink my choice of software.
Closed comments on old posts
I’m tired of exercising my spam filter and the occasional cleaning up of comment spam on old posts, so I’ve closed comments on posts older than 45 days. Given the volume of legitimate comment activity (very little) I doubt this will inconvenience anyone.
Wordpress upgrade
New release of wordpress installed.
Weirdness, continues
No time to work on this. Reverted to default theme and will selectively turn off options and plugins. Whee.
Weirdness
Apologies for weirdness with the blog, I don’t have explanations. I solved the rendering of text problem by reverting and re-enabling my hacked theme. I don’t know why the webserver is occasionally serving blank pages, reloading solves that but I suspect something changed in the hosting environment (I can’t kick, though, Bill is still allowing me to freeload :) ).
Site move mostly okay
The [site
move](http://www.lonsteins.com/archives/2006/06/11/site-move-soon-expect-downtime/)
happened as planned. Most things are working. Some are not. URL-
rewriting is broken, meaning the archives, categories and pages are
inaccessible. I haven’t had time to look at it. Once the house move is
completed and I have net access from home I’ll fix it.
Site move soon, expect downtime
[Just like the last time](http://www.lonsteins.com/archives/2004/05/25/server-move/), I’m imposing on Bill and moving this vanity site to his colo’ed box until I work out the upcoming move. I expect I’ll inflict downtime on myself and will not reply to email quickly. With a bit of care (and luck) the move will go smoothly.
A little unplanned downtime
Experienced a few days of unplanned downtime. The system wedged but still responded to ping. I was busy and didn’t notice that I had not seen the daily summaries until my Dad mentioned it today. Self-hosting is getting tired after six years.
Welcome Reaa
Created an author account for Maria. Now she can contribute articles to the blog.
All Noise, No signal, now with caching
Decided I didn’t like seeing high cpu loads, mostly when the bots come trolling through. Now I have caching.
