It’s been a long six days. Probably harder on our son than on me and Maria but seeing how he can’t even hold his head up unassisted, let alone write, I get to have the last word. I have: * learned to five or six ways to hold a squirming infant. * learned to swaddle a baby. * learned to change a diaper. * learned to bottle feed an infant. * sang more, and worse, than I have in twenty-five years. * stared at a face more than I have since first meeting Maria. * realized that there are three distinct cries- irritation, upset and an eardrum searing howl punctuated with sobs and a quivering trill of the lower lip. * read What to Expect in the First Year. * been vomited on, baptized with piss and smeared with shit. * read The Happiest Baby on the Block. * wondered how the heck I’m going to get by without six hours of sleep.

At 5:45pm Maria delivered Nathan Victor. He is healthy, 9lbs. 12oz. and 21″ long.

I mounted a set of Fastway Pegs on my airhead but did not get much of a chance to test them. I put a few hundred street miles on them on Saturday and I have no complaints. The buzzing of the engine in 3rd and 4th gears around 4200-4400 rpm that blurs my mirrors can be strongly felt through the pegs but they otherwise feel good and give a great platform for my feet. I’ve read that the rubber from a 1150 or 1200GS can be wedged into the gaps to damp out the buzz.

A well-respected programmer, seeing that his employer was engaging in behavior that was unethical and in some jurisdictions illegal, sent a lengthy letter distancing himself from their activity and stating that he cannot continue their relationship and may contact the authorities. Their reaction was unsurprising.
