I set up a NEDoD wiki so my fellow denizens of doom have a place to keep data, links, files, etc. The sort of stuff that goes by on mailing lists but everyone wishes they still had a copy of later. The content at the moment is pretty generic but I wanted to work on the structure and see if it worked.

For the technically inclined, it’s running Kwiki.

We made an offer on a house.

This is the house that the owner pulled from the market for personal reasons before we could see the inside. We are keeping our fingers crossed!

WTB: Late model R100GS/PD in good condition. Will consider R100GS with accessories. R1100GS with good service history is an option if price is right. Buyer located in NYC, prefer seller in 300 mile proximity.

I subscribe to several motorcycle related email lists and periodically the topic of what to carry on a ride comes up. Aside from the pocket knife, cellphone and pager that I always carry. I probably bring more than most people because a) I ride an old machine and b) I split it between tankbag and toolkit.

Tankbag: * EZ-Pass * coins, a few dollars worth. * extra ear plugs * SPF-30 sunblock * road maps, usually two or more states * bundle of small zip ties * bundle of large zip ties * CO2 inflater * extra CO2 cartridge * flashlight, plastic using AA batteries * (2) AA batteries * butane lighter * bungee cords * electronic tire gauge * adjustable wrench * ibuprofen or tylenol * non-drowsy decongestant * eye drops * reflective vest * spare headlamp bulb * alcohol handwipes * mylar “space blanket” * (2) chemical heat packs * clean rags

Toolkit * replacement fuses * headlamp bulb * auxiliary bulb * spark plug spare * home-made continuity tester using an extra auxiliary bulb and alligator clips * vise grips * pliers * large adjustable wrench * set of metric combination wrenches * assortment of metric and SAE combination wrenches * multi-tip screwdriver * black electrical tape, 1 roll * duct tape, half roll * three feet of clear plastic siphon tubing (”Jersey Credit Card”) * chain lube * WD-40 * Honda spray cleaner * quart of 10w30 oil * canteen of water * three dollars in quarters in a film cannister * rags * dobie bag (scrubbing sponge) * bungee net * bungee cords

I have to get or replace a few things: tire repair kit, safety or sun glasses, a spare clear visor for helmet, some go-joe hand cleaner packets, bandaids, a sparkplug socket, a ratchet.

Took a great ride with SBONYC - Sport Bikes of New York City. Dan B plotted the route and led us through New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I logged it as over 390 miles mostly of backroads and one dirt goat trail- we learned that GPS and mapping software inspires confidence even when reality doesn’t match.

This was my first ride with SBONYC people and what a great, friendly bunch they are. I ride fairly conservatively, in my own opinion, and my bike is heavy and underpowered compared to most sportbikes so it lends itself to a slower pace. I was concerned that they might be a pack of fire-eating squids but I didn’t need to worry. Everyone rode in control and followed Dan’s rules for the group ride. No one was left behind and no one did anything stupid or scary unlike on some group rides I’ve taken. I’m looking forward to the next one.

I took a few snapshots. I hope I got everyone’s name right.
