I mistook a family that boarded behind me as being from out of town. All the earmarks were there- members of the party separated, talking loudly, not holding on to anything, nearly getting knocked down when the train lurched- in short the usual. What was unusual is that they live in my neighborhood.

Devil Doll- Queen of Pain. I was browsing CDBaby’s music and looked at what was selling that day. I listened to the clips and bought the album. It’s good- a punk, ska, swing, torch song admixture- but there is just so far an album can go with a single theme. Eighteen songs of heartache and rejection gets tired after a few listens no matter how much fun the musicians seem to be having with tweaking the genres. You get your money’s worth, though. So many CDs have ten songs of which eight aren’t worth hearing the first time but here you have about an hour and a quarter of music and five or six that are worth plucking out for repeat playlisting. The singer has a great voice, edgy and soulful, and the band is tight. I hope the next album branches out.

Great time but I’m dead tired. I’ll get the photos uploaded over the next few days.

This time it is Verisign with a patent on determining the unavailability of an internet domain name. See the commentary on ICANNwatch. The only thing remotely original about it is the formatting of the results in HTML and the inclusion of ordering mechanism (remember, this was filed in 1998).
